Just wrote up the American Red Cross’ new tornado-spotting app for @fastcompany. What do you think — Awesome or annoying?

The Red Cross is listening in on your tweets. It’s not for malicious purposes — they hope that by following social media, they can find out live info about natural disasters/catastrophes and give crucial intelligence to first responders. Just wrote for @Fastcoexist

Just wrote this for Fast Company. What I found fascinating (because I’m a big nerd) is that residents turned to text messages, Twitter and Facebook to contact their relatives because data access on their smartphones worked but the phone network was too overloaded to make voice calls.
