…And here’s a 1978 newspaper ad for punk rock band Sham 69. (via Dangerous Minds | Comic style ad for Sham 69’s ‘If the Kids are United’)
This ad was found on a San Francisco bus on Friday.
Colonialism with a nice side of unapologetic racism. Cool.
Jfc fuck Israel
wow
really now
I almost wonder if this isn’t some sort of trolling campaign in action—perhaps an anti-Israeli group attempting to make Israelis/Jewish people look racist in an effort to drive people away from support of Israel. It seems way too flagrant to be real.
Hell, I don’t almost wonder. I totally wonder. Because the more I think about this, the more that seems like the most plausible explanation. Then again, maybe the American Freedom Defense Initiative really are wingnutty enough to think statements like this will bring them support. Decide for yourself by checking out their website.
It’s genuine wingnuttery. The horrible person behind it is Pamela Geller, the Jewish Ann Coulter.
Backstory: The advertisement above was posted by the American Freedom Defense Initiative, an organization founded by right-wing activist, blogger, and all-star New York gonzo political icon Pamela Geller. Sometimes I wonder if Geller isn’t secretly a Karen Finley-era performance art star undertaking the craziest 24/7 live-in art project imagineable, because otherwise none of her stuff even makes sense.
It’s like Hamas was secretly bankrolling some crazy American right-winger to make friends of Israel look bad. Hey, wait a second…

Officers who will be patrolling the Games’ rowing events at Eton, Berks., were amazed when told by senior officers told them they must not be seen with snacks such as Walker’s crisps or Ginsters pasties.
Thames Valley Police insisted that before going to the Olympic events officers, including Royal Protection guards, must empty their snacks into a clear polythene bag.
The top-level instruction, based on guidelines from the Games’ London organisers, was designed to protect advertising by the official sponsors including Coca Cola, Cadbury’s and McDonalds

In this Israeli internet commercial, an Israeli wearing a t-shirt from his army days walks down a Tehran street.
They got the details of Tehran totally wrong (fashion, architecture, etc.) but the feeling stands. Quick translation of the tagline: “In life this is still not possible, but on the internet relationships like this are created every day.”
Amen to that. War is a pointless impulse; let’s all watch Barcelona FC games and make fart jokes together, alright?

Interesting advertising sidenote. I recently changed my Facebook interface language to Spanish. Within 24 hours, my targeted sidebar ads turned into promotional advertisements for socialist political parties and luxury sweatpants.
Hmm.
Nando’s Chicken commercial from South Africa with lots and lots of dictators. Much love to @boingboing for pointing out this piece of awesomeness. (by BouffantOnline)
THIS WAS A REAL POSTER. Also: I love the idea of a whole thread of stuff that looks like it came from alternate universes. (via Things that look like alternate history, but aren’t - Page 12 - Alternate History Discussion Board)
This doesn’t have anything to do with New York - it’s actually from The Netherlands - but it’s pretty amazing!
Philadelphians and former Philadelphians are well aware of the glorious, cracked-out commercials produced by Robbins’ Diamonds. Watch this vintage disco-era clip and find out why Robbins rocks.

Wait… how the hell is journalism #4 and not #1????
The 1970s were a hell of a decade.
